Suffocation to breath

Every farmer or gardener who plants a seed or bulb in the ground looks forward to a healthy plant that will one day flower and bear fruit.  If there were no chance of that happening, we wouldn’t bother.

Still there are a bunch of reasons why the seed may end up unfruitful.

It’s the same with the Word of God – which Jesus compares to seed that a farmer scatters over his field.  Many of us know the story.  At the end there are only two real outcomes: fruitful or unfruitful.

Jesus wants to bring new life to hearing ears and open hearts – so we can bear the fruit of his character, impacting others with his love and truth.

Jesus identifies some ways this new life can be choked out of us.  The word ‘choke’ is a synonym for ‘suffocate’ or to lose breath, the very thing that gives life.

What “weeds” are choking the life of Jesus out of you?
What is suffocating the breath of the Holy Spirit from the life God wants for you?

The seed of God’s Word goes everywhere, but only bears fruit in good soil – and good soil has a lot to do with how we “hear”.

Youth Ministry
SOUL Crew was on last Friday night.  Pastor Reid led the session and we had a very physically challenging, yet fun way for the young people to learn all about Lent.  From collecting raw bacon fat to remind us of “Fat Tuesday”, to throwing water balloons to remind us of our Baptism, to learning a new word “Tessarakonta” meaning 40 – 40 days of Lent, tasting salt to remind us of Jesus temptation. I am sure all who attended will at least remember a couple of facts about Lent.  Next Friday we will be finding out what Luke has to say to us.

Don’t forget to invite along a few friends.  Youth is a safe, non-confronting environment where like-minded teens get to share and grow their faith. Further details regarding youth contact Margot Mertin 0401 850814 or mmertin@paravista.org.au

From the Office

Ignite the Future building update
Mossop Construction & Interiors have been appointed as contractors for the upgrade.  This is the same company that has recently completed the library upgrade to the school.  They will also be completing another project with the school.

Installation of Fencing will commence next Tuesday 14th March, then Hoarding of work areas on the 15th and 16th March.

For the length of the building works, all volunteers and visitors to the church are requested to enter via the front office during working hours and sign in on the visitor’s book.  If you are leading a group you are requested to sign in on behalf of the group and then PLEASE sign out again once your group has finished.  This is to prevent any health and safety issues during installation.

If you have any issues during this time please contact Stephen or the front office on 8263 5087

Pigeon Holes
Due to the building works most of the pigeon holes have had to be moved to a temporary position.  As all the boxes are going to be moved in the next two weeks it is imperative that all members remove all their belongings till further notice.   All posted information will still be available from the information area or sent out via email.

Thank you to all who turned up at short notice on Thursday and helped gut the kitchen and old education area.
