Mentoring, Anyone? |
“As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” This statement comes from one of the more famous proverbs in the Bible, and it points to a basic truth: one of our most important jobs as Christians and as human beings is to help each other grow in the faith.
Some of the ways we do this every day are by treating people kindly, by praying for others, by encouraging people who could use an uplifting word and sometimes challenging them when they stray. This sort of support is also an important part of Christian discipleship. A mentor is a spiritual tutor, somewhere between a friend and a teacher. A mentor offers the wisdom of his or her experience to another person, helping them to mature in their own faith and life.
Anyone can be a mentor to someone else and it is often a powerful way that you can help. Mentoring is an important role that anyone can fill. You don’t have to be a pastor or a theologian to help someone through a tough spot in their life or to offer a listening ear and some encouragement.
Every one of us needs someone in our life who will take time to help us walk the right path. Need some life direction? Why not ask someone for a few minutes of his or her time? And if you have learned a few lessons and gained some knowledge and wisdom through life’s journey, why not pass it on!

Podcasts available at www.paravista.org.au Our next session for ‘What’s next Lord?’ will be on Saturday 5th November, 9am – 12noon in the hall. In this session we will seek God for strategies to implement the key themes that emerged from the first two sessions. If you are passionate about participating in the mission God has given us, come along and help us discern our next steps as a church. Everyone is welcome and even if you did not participate in either of the first two sessions you can still come. Your contribution will be valued.
Impact 2012
This Sunday 30th October, we are offering another opportunity to participate in our Impact 2012 presentation. The session will be held in the library between the morning services from 9.45-10.30am . This will enable you to either stay on after the first service or come early before the second service. You can enter the school library via the door in the courtyard opposite the rear doors of the church. Come along and hear about the great things God is doing among us and how we can play our part in making an impact in 2012.
If you are unable to make one of the Impact 2012 presentations, you can view it online by going to – http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0F3D587D761E41FC

Take Home Bible Activity Kits
Tanya Harrison and her wonderful team have put together several new Take Home Bible Kits for you and your family to enjoy. They are located in the foyer near the parenting room and can be borrowed using your library card at any time. They are great fun and are a great way to explore and discuss faith at home. Why not give them a go!
Play group
Term 4 sessions have begun and we would love to invite anyone with young children or grandchildren to come along and join in the fun. Play group is a great way to build connections with other families and also provides a safe and fun environment for children to learn and play. Play group also gives us adults the chance to share life with other adults in a non-threatening and inviting way. Play group runs each Wednesday morning from 9:30am -10:30am in the church hall. Finally, if you are interested in joining the Play Group Team for 2012 we would love to hear from you. For more information speak to Sharyn 8264 7324 or Laura 8263 5087.

Your generous support allows LCC to demonstrate the kind of love God offers each of us…
Each Christmas Lutheran Community Care staff and volunteers work together to help people doing it tough celebrate Christmas. This year with the help of generous supporters they hope to provide nearly 1,000 Christmas Hampers in the Metropolitan and Barossa District.
To find out how you can help please go to the website at www.lccare.org.au or contact reception at the Blair Athol office by calling 08 8269 9300 for a complete list of items needed for this year. LCC ask that donations be in to their offices by mid-November so they can have ample time to prepare the hampers.
Peace – of mind!
On Cultural Sunday a blue ‘Peace’ flag was displayed on the hall wall. On he centre of the flag was a white and pink dove carrying an olive twig and on each side and top and bottom was the word ‘peace’ in four different languages. Jürgen Lehmann and I obviously established the English and German translation, however we had no idea of the other country of origin of the other two…that was until I received an email from Ros Molloy, “Dear Barry, the two other peace words are; Paix – French, Mir – Croatian".
Thanks Ros, We can now sleep in peace!
