Easter Services

We have a great weekend of services planned to celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus. Our Maundy Thursday service will begin our Easter celebrations. Here we remember the events of that night and celebrate Holy Communion together as we focus on what Jesus meant when he said, “I am the bread of life.

On Good Friday we look at how Jesus was prepared to do ‘Whatever it takes’ to set us free from the grip of sin so we could know and love God the Father. The Good Friday service has been carefully planned so the songs, drama and message all point to God’s amazing love for us in Jesus and what he gave for us.

Our Easter Sunday services will be a celebration of Jesus’ resurrection and what that means for us in light of what he did for us on the cross. The significance of Jesus’ death and resurrection is life changing. We have been ‘Set free for a new life.’

If you can make it for one or, all three of the services we would love you to join this Easter weekend and don’t hesitate to bring a friend. Our Good Friday service is a particularly suitable to bring a friend along who is not familiar with church or the Christian message.

Easter Bible Readings:
Maundy Thursday: John 6:25-59
Good Friday: John 3:16-17; Romans 5:6-8
Easter Sunday: John 20:1-18

Easter Service Times
Maundy Thursday 7.30 pm with Holy Communion
Good Friday 8.45am & 10.30am
Easter Sunday 8.45am and 10.30am with Holy Communion

Our Easter services attract a large number of visitors who we can bless in the following ways-
1.    Make it easy for them to find a car park by parking in Mattiske’s carpark.
2.    Fill the church from the front rows so first time visitors do not have to walk all the way down the front to find a seat.
3.    If you arrive early sit in the middle of rows so people do not have to climb over you to get to a seat.
4.    Smile and say hello to people, especially those by themselves.

Hot cross buns for Good Friday
As part of our Easter celebrations we will be serving hot cross buns for morning tea on Good Friday. If you are able to bring a plate of hot cross buns, cut, buttered and ready to serve, that would be greatly appreciated. Please put the buns in the kitchen before service so the people rostered for morning tea can serve them. Thankyou

Pastor Noel’s news
Last Sunday Pastor Noel announced that he will be stepping down from the role of Senior Pastor at Good Shepherd by the end of this year. Pastor Noel shared that managing his ongoing health issue, Narcolepsy (a sleep disorder) and the demands of leading a large church have become increasing harder for him. This has led him to make the hard decision to step out of the role and allow someone with fresh vision and full health to lead Good Shepherd in the coming years.

Health permitting Pastor Noel will stay on in his role until the end of this year and then take a 12 month break from work in the hope this will bring improvement to his health. In the meantime the congregation will begin working through the call process to find a new Senior Pastor.
