2nd December 2012

Make room for more God in your life!
Listening to God can be scary. What if I don't like what He has to say or what He wants me to do? What if I don't think I can do what He wants me to do? I have had many of those questions recently and I wasn't sure I could do what God wanted me to do. My faith has been tested and although it has been a big learning curve over the past few months, it has grown and is now stronger!

I have always believed in God, but only in the past few years have I learnt and realised that faith is not just acquired. It is a path that you choose to take; a journey on which you travel your entire life. It is a journey on which you continually learn, ask questions, have troubles, share triumphs, feel pain, experience love, laugh and cry and feel joy. It is a journey which I am so glad to be on; a journey where I am learning the importance of reading the Bible, praying, spending time with God and worshipping Him. These practises are now so much a part of my life that I miss them terribly if I go without for too long!

It is a journey on which I am learning that God will give me everything I need to do the work that he wants me to do. It is scary; to step forward and completely and utterly trust God; to believe every day that no matter what comes across my path, God will be with me and help me through. I have to look to him on a daily basis, sometimes on an hourly basis to get me through but I know He will get me through! He only wants what is best for me!

"May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit." Romans 15:13

My life has completely changed from what it was only five years ago. God is no longer just part of my life, he is my life! He is the source of my hope, my joy, my energy and my strength. When I don't think I can carry on, he gives this to me. If I continually look to Him, then I can find hope is in everything. Things may not happen when I want them to, or how I would expect or like them to happen, but God will answer all my prayers!

"Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." 1 Peter 5:6-7

"Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord" Psalm 27:14

I am learning about the power of prayer; the importance of delving into God's word regularly and  of meeting with other Christians where I can share my troubles and triumphs, share my life and speak about God and pray with others. Some days, even some weeks, have seemed like they are never going to get any better but when I stop to pray, be honest with God and others and say ‘I need help!’ He brings me peace, comfort, hope, wisdom and energy to continue to do work for Him.

"If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ." 1 Peter 4:11

Develop a deeper relationship with God; it will change your life! I can attest to that. He has given me a hope and strength within that I have never experienced before and didn't know that I had. I want to encourage you to read God's word regularly because the more you read it, the better you get to know God and the easier it becomes to recognise the things that aren't of God. Thank and praise Him in all that you do and you will find joy for your life; speak with God daily and take time to listen to Him. Make room for more God in your life, it will be the best thing you can ever do!

"Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve....But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." Joshua 24:15
