Weekly News

1 August 2010

For the times,

they are a-changin!’

I wonder if Bob Dylan in his wildest dreams could ever imagine how much the times would change in the following decades when he sang ‘For the times, they are a-changing’ back in the sixties?
Today, those of you with email have received this weekly news in our new format which enables us to embed links to anywhere on the world-wide-web. We can include video clips, links to our online sermons and quickly change the content and layout with a few clicks of a button. You can even arrange for a message to be sent to you via email, Twitter or Facebook notifying you that a new edition of the weekly news is available for reading. Furthermore, people all over the world can access our weekly news which enables us to impact people way beyond the walls of our church.
There is no way I would have imagined this fifteen years ago when I started out as a pastor. Technology has changed so much. It is quite a challenge to keep up with it all. The good news is that the central message of God’s love for us in Jesus, never changes. The Bible says, ‘Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.’ (Hebrews 13:8) While everything is rapidly changing around us we can be assured of God’s unchanging love for us. What Jesus did on the cross for us, will never change.
What will change is the way we communicate this message to the world. Our new format of the weekly news is one way we are trying to keep abreast of things and make the most of the opportunities this presents us to share the message of Jesus with the world. While it may take a little to get used to, the increased potential for people to encounter the good news of Jesus is worth the discomfort of change. I hope you enjoy the new format.

Habitat for Humanity Team leading 6pm Service on 8th August
Several people from our church were part of a Habitat Team who recently served in Cambodia. They will share about their experiences as part of the regular 6pm service on 8th August. Come along and hear about their trip and how God impacted them through this experience.

Children’s & Family Ministry

Kingdom Kids
During the 8:45 service, the children go out to Junior Kingdom Kids (for 3 – 8 year olds).
During the 10:30 service, there is:
· Baby Zone (0-3 year olds),
· Kindy Zone (3-5 year olds or Reception),
· Kids Zone (Year 1-3’s) and
· Kool Zone (Year 4-6’s).

Kingdom Kids started again last Sunday with a big surprise with children springing out of boxes. In Kindy Zone we discovered the “Mystery Message” of the week. Unlike Esau and Jacob, we learnt that we should “Love one another”.
If you enjoy helping children, the ‘Kingdom Kids’ teachers would really appreciate your help. We still need some more people to be the 2nd adult providing supervision (not teaching) in most of the zones. For more information, see Tanya Harrison.

Playgroup
Playgroup has also resumed for this term, meeting on Wednesdays morning in the church hall. For more information call Sharon Ortega on: 8264 4123.

Ignite Youth: Metro Christian Life Week (CLW) camp was held at Pt Hughes in the second week of the holidays. I went along with a bunch of youth from the community. It is safe to say that everyone had a fantastic time, connected with some amazing people and learnt heaps about themselves and God. Metro CLW will be held again in the September school holidays, so keep an eye out for registration forms in the next week or two.
The Youth Program starts again for this term on Friday the 30th of July at 7pm. Bring along your favourite board games. For a full Term 3 timetable check out the youth notice board or go to the website
