23rd September 2012

Jesus is Our Armour
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. (Ephesians 6:10-11NIV)

Fighting the Good Fight is our current worship series on spiritual warfare.  Over recent weeks we’ve been exposing the devil’s schemes against us; and learning to trust in Jesus’ victory over the powers of evil.

The armour of God that Paul describes in Ephesians 6:10ff is another way of identifying and aligning ourselves with Jesus.  Let’s see how:

The belt of truth – Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.  In Jesus, God’s Truth is up close and personal. Jesus is God revealed to us – who is indeed for us.
The breastplate of righteousness – we have been given the righteousness of Jesus through faith.
Feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace – Through his cross, Jesus has brokered peace: between a fallen sin-stained humanity, and the living God who is perfectly good and morally holy.
The shield of faith – Our faith, trust and hope is not in our performance, but in Jesus and his works on our behalf.
The helmet of salvation – Jesus is our Saviour – who shares his indestructible life with us.  We are heirs together with Christ.  Our eternal destiny is secure in Jesus.
The sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God – Jesus used the Word of God to disarm the devil’s temptations.  The Word-made-flesh in Jesus has defeated sin, death, and the powers of evil in our stead.
Pray in the Spirit on all occasions – The Holy Spirit gives us confidence to pray to the Father in Jesus’ name – and we can do this anywhere, anytime, about anything.

God’s resources can only benefit us if we make use of them.  It’s been said that those who daily put on the full armour of God are rarely defeated!

This week we finish the Series, “Fighting the Good Fight”. This week’s message is “Powering on in prayer "But what about you?" he asked. "Who do you say I am?"  Simon Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Jesus replied, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not prevail against it. (Matthew 16:15-18)

Cebu Missionary Foundation Fundraising Reminders
In August we held our Scone Day, everyone seemed to enjoy them once again and we raised $252. Thank you to all for your purchases!

Our next fundraiser is our Springtime Plant Stall, which will be held on Sun 14th Oct and if not all plants are sold, they will be offered again on the following Sun 21st Oct.  We will be setting up the stall on Sat 13th from 10.30am - 12noon, so if you wish to bring any plants for sale, please bring them between those times, or on Sunday morning.  Please name your plants and if they have a flower, make note of the colour. If anyone has any spare small pots (make sure they are not brittle), I would appreciate them for potting up more plants. Also, if anyone would like to donate a bag or 2 of potting mix, that would also be appreciated.

Advance notice.....as of Sun 28th Oct, we will have for sale our Christmas Cards again....yes, Christmas...13 weeks to go!!

Our Fundraising Team will be losing a couple of members at the end of this year, so we urgently need your help. We don't have many meetings, approximately 4/year, mainly to organise our events for the year and when having a major event.  We need people who are willing and able to work, who have a passion for the poverty people. Please give this your prayerful consideration. Please have a talk to me or any members of the team, for more info.

Would you like to be a Chocolate Seller?  Do you work in an office where you could have a box on display? Please see me after 10.30am services and we can make arrangements for you to collect a box or two.

Thank you again for all the support throughout the year.

With Christian greetings
