4 Keys of Families
- Growing Together in Jesus
As a parent, it sobers me to think that one day my kids will walk away from my grave…

What part of me will walk away with them?   What will they "get" from me?
What about life and faith and love, am I cultivating and passing them on?

Having an impact on a child’s life is largely about making their home a place where it becomes natural to speak the language of faith, hope and love.

How do we do this? Here are some simple ideas

Why not engage in;
1. Caring Conversations.                           2. Family Time in the Word.
3. Family Rituals and Traditions.             4. Family Acts of Service.

While we claim to love our family members the most, it’s not always reflected in the time we make for each other. Why not make it a priority this week to impact the lives of your children and your children’s children through spending time with God TOGETHER.

This week we continue the theme,Better Than Busy”, with “Recovering work/life balance”.  What's the point of working your fingers to the bone if you hand over what you worked for to someone who never lifted a finger for it? Smoke, that's what it is. A bad business from start to finish.  So what do you get from a life of hard labour? Pain and grief from dawn to dusk. Never a decent night's rest. Nothing but smoke.

Kingdom Kids back on this Sunday 12th February at the 10:30am service for ages 0-12.

There will be some room changes this year and a slight change in the way Kingdom Kids sessions are run. We will all meet in the OSHC room this Sunday to introduce the year and our 2012 leaders. For the rest of the year we will be going straight to our zone rooms to maximize the time we have in our age groups. There will be an assistant to point you in the right direction for the first few weeks while we adjust to the changes.

Groups:
Baby Zone (Education Centre) 0-2
Kindy zone (School OSHC Room) 3-5 including reception
Kids Zone (School Library) year levels 1-3
Kool Zone (End Classroom) year levels 4-7 including Junior Assistants

Registration forms: All participants will need to complete a 2012 registration form. This needs to be done by parents/carers but thankfully only one form needs to be filled out per family. To save postage, we will have these available on Sundays before and after Kingdom Kids. Please take a few minutes early in the term to complete a family form. Thank you

Home and Church working together
This year we would like to encourage every parent/carer/grandparent to come and visit Kingdom Kids once a term. You do not need to run or organise a thing, we simply want to provide an opportunity for you to experience kingdom Kids with your family. We are hoping that this will give us all the chance to share the privilege of nurturing faith with the children in our community. This will also be a way that we can share ideas about nurturing faith in the home and at church.  So, please book aside a day this term to come and sit through a session with your child(ren). We look forward to sharing this journey with you.

8:45am Kingdom Kids
Instead of running a session over in the school, we will now be providing a supervised activity in the parenting room during the sermon. This change has been made due to the increasing number of 8:45am families moving to the 10:30am service and a smaller number of participants and leaders. Please speak to Laura if you would like to know more or have concerns.

Back to School – what a service…literally!!
I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped to make last Sunday’s Back to School Sunday a HUGE celebration. I can’t say thank you enough to the people who helped set up, pack up, cook, make salads, serve, clean, wash dishes, run the service, give out gifts, kids sheets and so much more. I feel incredibly privileged to be a member of such a wonderful church family. I felt like our church functioned like a healthy and well functioning family should. Well done to everyone who was involved and congratulations to all the new receptions in our community. We pray your year is filled with joy and excitement as you learn and grow.

Invigorate – last minute help needed
Next Saturday is our 2012 Children and Family State Conference “Invigorate”. It will be held at Unity College, Murray Bridge and is set to be a fantastic day filled with inspiring speakers, interactive workshops, great food and fellowship and even a guest performance by Chris Jaensch. Please pray for this event and for all the people travelling from churches around our state to attend. I am coordinating the children’s program that will be offered to parents who need assistance with child care. Due to the large number of enrolments, I am now in need of a third Team Member to help run the program. If you are child safe trained and interested in being a part of this wonderful day PLEASE CONTACT ME ASAP. All expenses will be covered and no extra training or prep will be required. Thanks

Small Groups Launch – Sunday 19th February 2012
Our Sunday services on 19th February 2012 will be highlighting the purposes and blessings of small groups, and providing opportunities for people to try out a small group.  I will be preaching on the importance of Growing in Jesus Together!

Please note we will NOT be holding a lunch or dinner at Good Shepherd.  Rather, we are asking small groups to be open to the possibility of hosting some new people on Sunday 19 February – or a time slot during that following week.

Grab a flyer at worship and express your interest in trying out a small group or contact the office.

Thank you...
Thank you for your generosity in giving to our Christmas campaign and throughout 2011. Your help enabled us to bring joy to people in need at Christmas time. We gave away over 800 Christmas hampers packed with goodies like canned ham, milk, toys and books to the disadvantaged in metropolitan Adelaide and the Barossa Valley. We were also delighted to host a Christmas Lunch for 60 people in the Port Adelaide Enfield council area who otherwise would have spent Christmas on their own.
Your kindness continues to fund services even after Christmas, one of our busiest times of the year. These services offer more than a handout to those who need it most. In some cases, those who come to us for hampers at Christmas are referred to other programs within our organisation. These programs can include relationship counselling, parenting support, a computer class, a financial counselling session or even a cooking demonstration. We take a holistic approach when serving people to make sure they have the confidence and life skills to get back on their own feet.
Thank you again for making a difference in the lives of so many South Australians.
Blessings
