I am the life

This Sunday we continue our series for Lent called ‘Knowing Jesus’. In this series we are looking at what Jesus says about himself in the Gospel of John, mainly through a series of statements where Jesus says “I am”.

This Sunday we look at what Jesus meant when he said “I am the life”. What was Jesus promising when he said in John 10:10, “I have come that you may have life and have it to the full?”

How would you define a full life? It’s an important question to ask ourselves because if our definition of a ‘full life’ is different to what Jesus promises we are setting ourselves up to be disappointed by God when he doesn’t give us what we expect.

We will also look at one of the common challenges that prevent many of us from experiencing the full life Jesus came to give us.

Come and join us this Sunday as we celebrate the life we have in Jesus!

Bible Readings: John 10:7-10; 14:5-7

Administration Reception Position
We are pleased to announce that Belinda Konrad was the successful applicant for the position of Administration Reception at Good Shepherd.  Belinda will be starting in the office on Monday 7th March.  Belinda will be taking on Rochelle’s roll as Rochelle will move into the Worship Support and Digital Communication roll. To assist Belinda please ensure your connect cards are completed on a Sunday and placed into the offering bowl.

This will allow our staff to worship and not feel compelled to carry out duties on their day off.  Alternatively, you can email the church office churchenquiries@paravista.org.au

An opportunity still exists for respondents to any security alarm events needing investigation at the church.  For expressions of interest please contact Stephen on szanker@paravista.org.au, the office on 8263 5087 or mark security on your connect card.

I am the light

Few of us like to be ‘kept in the dark’ about things that really matter in life.  We like to be kept in the loop about important decisions in our family, workplace, or school.  We like to know what’s happening in the lives of people we care about, and how our relationships are tracking.  No one likes to be kept in the dark.

And no one should be kept in the dark about who God is, what God is like, and how God regards us as people created in his image.  In Jesus we receive God’s definitive answer to these questions.

As part of our Lent series: Knowing Jesus, this Sunday we will explore one of Jesus’ statements:  ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’ (John 8:12 NIV)

What does Jesus’ claim and promise mean for you?

Issues from February Board meeting
  • It was decided to proceed with Stage 1 of our facilities redevelopment (kitchen, hall, children’s play area, hall upgrade and modifications to the Education Centre). This is subject to the congregation giving permission to borrow money from the LLL. Building will need to commence by early May and be completed by the end of September in time for 50th Anniversary celebrations. If this timeline cannot be accommodated building will be postponed till 2017
  • It was decided than we would not apply for any government grants where the source of the money is from gambling revenue.
  • The logo for the 50th Anniversary was adopted. This will be used for all correspondence about the 50th.
  • It was decided to proceed with obtaining examples of altars to give the congregation an opportunity to give feedback whether we upgrade our altar and associated furniture or retain the existing furniture

Come and see

This Sunday we begin a new series for Lent called ‘Knowing Jesus’. Jesus once asked his disciples, “Who do people say that I am?” After giving him all the answers they had heard along the way Jesus then asks, “Who do you say that I am?” How would you answer that question if you were asked?

In this series, we’re going to look at what Jesus says about himself in the Gospel of John, mainly through a series of statements Jesus makes about himself that are commonly referred to as the “I am” sayings of Jesus. This week we introduce the series with by looking at how Jesus’ first disciples came to know him by responding to the invitation “come and see”.

We pray you can join us this Sunday as we join together to “come and see” Jesus.

Transfiguration @ 8.45am service
How do you prepare for a journey or departure? The Gospel of Luke gives us a special glimpse of the purpose of the Transfiguration of Jesus — it is to prepare Jesus for his departure at Jerusalem (Luke 9:31). This sermon unpacks how Jesus’ preparation for departure applies to our lives as loved children of God.

Thankfulness @ 10.30am service
This Sunday at our 10.30 am service we celebrate the start of the school year with a fun worship service to welcome children starting school, and to bless all students, teachers and staff for the year ahead.

Our theme for the service is ‘Thankfulness: Looking for the good things’. Living with an attitude of gratitude is less about having the right things in our live and more how we look at the things we already have in our life. At the heart of this is growing awareness of God’s presence and his goodness towards us in Jesus.

The service will be followed by a free BBQ lunch. Come along and join us for us special celebration service followed by some food and socialising.
