Humble yourselves, therefore,
under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.
Cast all your anxiety on him
because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7 NIV
When
confronted by a major challenge, or a series of smaller ones, we wonder, “I
don’t know what to do? How will I get
through this? How on earth will I
cope?”
Dread and
fear start to invade our souls, and we find ourselves feeling anxious and
overwhelmed: “If it all depends on me – and I’ve got nothing – then I’m really
sunk.”
What happens
next depends on whether I focus on my futility - or God’s ability.
No matter
what we’re facing, we can always turn to God for help. In Psalms, I recently came across this gem
from a person looking back to how God helped:
Unless the LORD had given me
help, I would soon have dwelt in the silence of death.
When I said, “My foot is slipping,” your unfailing love, LORD, supported me.
When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy. Psalm 94:17-19
When I said, “My foot is slipping,” your unfailing love, LORD, supported me.
When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy. Psalm 94:17-19
God wants
you to talk to him. And God wants to
help you. He may not pluck you from the difficulty; but he will give you
wisdom, strength, and courage to get through the difficulty.
When we
turn to God and invite him into whatever situation we’re facing, our souls will
find rest.
Letting
go of the problem and casting it on God is always a better way forward than
struggling on our own without him.

Cebu Mission
Fundraising News
Thank you so much to all who supported our Fundraising for Cebu Mission last year. We were able to raise $7500 from all our events, which was very much appreciated by the mission.
This year, we pray that you will support us again. Our Project is to raise money to help the people of Inayawan Rubbish dump area, to fix cracks in the school building which happened from the earthquake, to fix up the surrounds of the building, to renovate the Medical Clinic and to be able to purchase some land at the back to develop a Basketball/Volleyball court to involve the Youth. Also Friedrich and Nancy hope to be able to build an office on site. If you are on Face Book, don't forget to have a look at the International Gospel Centre page where you will find stories and photos of what is happening in Cebu.
We welcome Rex Post to our Team and we pray that he will be blessed as he helps with the raising of funds for the Mission. We have room for one more member on the team, so if you feel you would like to join us, please contact Joan McCarthy on 8262 7429 or via email: joanrmc@bigpond.com or speak to me after service.

From the Office
In service
announcements
As part of our
congregational communication strategy we include selected announcements in our
worship services. We appreciate that some people find this disruptive and to
minimise this we seek to keep our announcements to a minimum. At the same time
we also understand that ministry teams are passionate about having their
ministries and events promoted as much as possible. This creates quite a
challenge to decide what is included and what is left out.
As a rule of thumb
the announcement needs to be relevant for a large section of our congregation.
We tend to avoid announcing ministries that happen on a regular basis
preferring to promote these through the weekly news and the before and after
service slides. This can be arranged by emailing Sooty Lor (slor@paravista.org.au). In saying this if there is something
special happening at a particular meeting we would consider including it in the
in service announcements.
To have an event
considered for the announcements they need to be emailed to Pastor Noel (nkluge@paravista.org.au) at least two weeks before the Sunday you
want them announced. Please avoid asking one of the pastors to make an
announcement a couple of minutes before a service begins. It can create a
rather awkward situation if the pastor has to decline the request due to an
already high number of announcements.
It is important to
note that while an announcement can raise awareness of an event or ministry,
the best way to attract people to something is through a personal invitation.
Encouraging your team members to personally invite people will have a far
greater impact than an announcement.
Noticeboard
Want to get into the
bible in 2014?
Every Tuesday morning from 9:30-11:30 our church is host to BSF (Bible
Study Fellowship) an interdenominational group which holds classes around the world.
This year we will get into the book of Matthew, discovering how relevant it is
to our lives today. About 50-60 women come to share in small groups what they
have learnt from readings during the week and then receive
teaching on the following week’s passage. Children (babies to school age)
are wonderfully nurtured and cared for in their own age appropriate classes.
We currently have about 4 women from our Good Shepherd community involved
and would love to welcome more... if you are keen to find out more, feel free to
drop by on a Tuesday morning or contact Sonia Hulme on 7122 2903 for more
information.
